Chester Celebrates: Heritage Festival Launch
June 21 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
A celebration to launch Chester Heritage Festival, opened by our Town Crier. Speakers include Deborah McAndrews, writer of the 2018 Chester Mystery Plays. Musicians, singers and dancers, provide the entertainment, with dragons, Romans and Vikings in attendance.
This prelude will herald over 60 Festival events, celebrating Chester’s cultural heritage, with stories unfolding in venues that are part of our rich architectural heritage.
On 22 June the story of our intangible heritage is told, in an illustrated presentation that looks at how Chester celebrates and explores its heritage, maintains medieval traditions and honours cultures past and present.
During the weekend of 23 and 24 June, there is plenty of action as we uphold some of these traditions with the Midsummer Watch Parades, which first took place in 1498, and the much older licensing of musicians and entertainers at the Minstrel’s Court, which dates back to 1204 and takes place in its original venue, St John the Baptist Church.
