John Goodall lecture on ‘The Castle’ is the second our season of Architectural Heritage lectures at the Europe House in London.
John Goodall, the architectural editor of Country Life, has
life long passion of the castle; that iconic building type of the Anglo-Norman period and later.
As the center of political and social life in England, he analyses the English Castle’s structural development, and its changing perceptions and roles in society.
‘The English Castle 1066-1650 ‘ has received the 2011’s Alice Davis Hitchcock Medallion, the 2011 Large Format Illustrated Book of the Year Award at the Spear’s Book awards, and the 2013 Historians of British Art Book Prize (pre-1800.) He is also the author of authoritative guidebooks for both the English Heritage, and the National Trust.
Goodall present’s ‘The Castle’ as the center of political and social life up until the early modern age of Britain. His work unravels the historical tapestry of the English Castle’s structural development, and explores the changing perceptions, and responsibilities these architectural monoliths had within society.
