Would you like to learn how to make local Irish breads in my Farmhouse Cottage within a small group?
If so, join me in my thatched barn 10 steps away from the edge of the Lough in an area of outstanding natural beauty in County Down. We are located 30 minutes from Belfast City Centre and 1 hour from the International Airport.
We start with a cup of local brew tea or coffee and a selection of my homemade traybakes and soda bannock. Then, aprons on and let’s get started! You will hear learn all about our traditional breads in Northern Ireland and I will demonstrate how to make each one. You will make three breads – Soda bread, Wheaten bread {brown bread} and potato bread. All breads are made on the Griddle and so only take a short time before they’re ready to eat.
Once you have made a selection of breads, we will all sit down at the table and feast on these delicious breads – soda, potato and wheaten {brown bread}. To accompany our breads we will have an impressive selection of local jams, dulse {seaweed} butter, smoked butter etc. Bring a good appetite and be prepared to eat! This will be washed down with endless cups of our local Belfast Brew or coffee. If it’s a special occasion, an Irish coffee or my homemade sloe Gin can be arranged!!
You will take home a bag of breads that you have made along with a copy of all of the recipes used. No doubt you will also have made some friends throughout the duration of the session which runs from 10.30am – 1pm.
If you’re looking for something a bit different to do then this is the perfect experience! It’s hands on and totally authentic to NI Food Tours as it’s in my own home. We invite all age groups – from 8 + and men enjoy this experience as much as women!! The experience is perfect for multi generational groups.
We look forward to welcoming you to this beautiful part of the Ards Peninsula – the Kitchen Garden of Northern Ireland!
